WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE TRANSGENDER OR NON-BINARY?

The term transgender describes people whose gender identity is different than the identity assigned at birth.
The terms non-binary, agender, and fluid gender which all fall under the trans umbrella, refer to people who identify and live as either, neither or a combination of genders.
The term Trans woman or Trans man refer to persons assigned male or female at birth, but identify at or near the opposite end of the gender spectrum.

WHAT IS GENDER?

Gender is the social classification of people as masculine and/or feminine. Whereas sex is an externally assigned classification, gender is something that becomes evident in a social context. Gender is not necessarily linked with primary or secondary sex characteristics.

WHAT IS GENDER IDENTITY?

Gender identity is a person's deeply held internal sense of being male or female or some other gender, regardless of the sex they were assigned at birth. The ability to determine someone's gender identity rests with the individual.

WHAT IS GENDER EXPRESSION?

Gender expression is the way in which a person expresses their gender identity, typically through their appearance, dress and behavior.
A person's expression may not necessarily correlate with their gender identity.
